wow

and the states that have lower than the u.s average electricity prices are red and there's a couple exceptions here and there but by and large the map is is almost directly uh related to how politicians are elected in those states.
5:54
And so the folks that are electing these Democrats, the Gavin Newsoms and the Governor Hochul's of the world, are getting what they pay for, are getting what they vote for.
6:05
The reason is, is there's a law called the Federal Power Act.
6:10
And the Federal Power Act empowers states to have almost exclusive control over the decisions Steven Moawad- With respect to the types of electricity, the energy mix in those states and how they interact with the utilities and the folks that provide the power.
6:30
over the past dozen years or so these states have been fixated on what are called net zero policies where you know no electricity can be generated emitting carbon dioxide and they have what what are called renewable portfolio standards they call them standards but they're really mandates Right California New York Illinois Washington Oregon, you have to have 75% of your power generated from wind and solar by 20 X, you know pick a date right.
7:07
And that forces the utilities to build generation that's more expensive and less reliable and the result is, of course, is because utilities are absorbing these these mandates and aren't absorbing.
