Tell us a bit about what you've learned and how you got into the broadcasting world.

well i i mean i don't quite know how sort of good the story is because in a way i've always just been on the back end of change so i qualified in uh 2006 as a marine biologist and knew right okay i need to go and start um sort of getting my name out there.

How do I do it? And just so happened that the local pub that I was working in, there was a chap there who did a bit of local filming for Granada Factual North, which was a production company out in Manchester.

So I could start asking questions on what should I do? How do I do it? And, you know, it was get together a show reel.

You know, let's see.

People need to see what you're doing.

And historically, back then, you know, we're just getting into the mid-naughties here.

And I think just on the Netflix thing, it'd be interesting to learn like, you know, like something like that, where a lot of people dream about, obviously there's like a lot of good, a lot of hidden things in it, but what's a good learning that you've learned from that experience about what you would advise people that maybe have these big goals, but then there's a lot of things behind the curtain that he's just prepared mentally for.

Because I'm going to use to watch it as a kid.

Well, Blue Peter was where I started.

So I got into this... presentory science communication, whatever you want to call it thing, at kind of like the worst possible time, which was the end of...

The end of the big 90s boom of everyone got a TV show and the start of these kind of dynasties in terms of presenters that had cut their teeth when anyone could get a TV show.

And then commissioners were like, well, we know you, so we're just going to stick with you.

So it's always...

For me, it's always been a hard industry to break into.

and because it was like the first the series one first of its kind how do you prep for that like did you know exactly what you were going to do when you guys had the idea for it, or did that change as you were filming?

What are some of the, I guess, the things you've taken since arriving at Port Melbourne Footy Club?

Yeah, I mean, I think obviously, as you said, Port Melbourne's a really proud club with a great history.

And it's an awesome club to bear from that perspective.

I think when you get to North Port Oval and walk around the change rooms, you do get a real sense of that.

And yeah, I think it's... as you touched on Maka, Maka tries to drive at home, but I think it's really important to, to reflect on that history and sort of, and buy into that history to get a little bit of motivation to, to, I guess, spur the team forward.

But I think also finding a balance, like it's, at a club like Port Melbourne, I think it's actually easy to get, as players, to get wrapped up in the history and to get sort of caught in the identity of past teams.

Like, you don't really have to look too far back, I don't think, to see really successful, really successful Port Melbourne teams and even those, the 2011 team and 2017 team and those sort of, those players that aren't that too dissimilar in age to us.

looking back now it's been a few months um have you had time to reflect and realize you know i guess um the significance of that because you know it's um it's a testament to yourself that the boys have bestowed this um captaincy upon you and from that what sort of uh i guess role do you do you see yourself as a captain you know is it the inspiring sort of captain is it the one that you know more on field or off field um how do you sort of see yourself being that skipper for the footy club
