Tom Heap

I'm Helen Cheresky.

And I'm Tom Heap.

Well, we're kicking off this series with one of the biggest international criminal trades in the world.

That is wildlife crime, worth an estimated £17 billion globally every year.

Very innovative.

A beautiful nature reserve was opened by the journalist and presenter Tom Heap in 2022.

There are three ponds which have been made accessible by a beautiful pathway of ornate wooden slats.

Wonderful.

Farming for over 10 years, but still only aged 34, Silas exemplifies the talent in the industry that should give hope at a time when fears of a knowledge gap are frequently commentated upon.

In the words of journalist and presenter Tom Heap, or the Grim Heaper, as he says he's often called, it is the responsibility of everyone in the sector to get out of the doom groove, as he calls it, and change the narrative.

Listening to Silas and many others like him is a pleasure for me, and I hope you take something from it too.

We kicked off with some of those recommended films.

It's quite a prestigious event.

They had Tom Heap, um, off the telly and off Radio 4, who was giving an after-dinner speech.

I've, I've been a couple of other times before.

But it's just interesting enough that there is a, a guild of agricultural journalists, which seems incredibly niche.
