Now that statement was made by Tom Brevoort in the year 2020.

So it's not a statement he's making in the moment of the purchase to kind of smooth things over with audiences.

That's what we're doing there.

But yeah, they gave their employees a deadline to decide, are you going to come out to the West Coast with us and we'll give you a stipend for moving and that sort of thing? Or are you just going to not do that and look for other jobs where you are? And it was rumored for a while that Conductor of X, Tom Brevoort, who very, very much tied New York City, the thought was, well, maybe he's going to stay behind and leave Marvel.

But nope, he decided he's going to go out and he will continue to be the Conductor of X for the foreseeable.

So I guess that's the news is we thought there was going to be news, but there's actually no particular news.

And the Tom Brevoort era of the X-Men, we haven't been crazy about it.

It hasn't been awful.

And I've got to make sure I've got something to say.

Like if I'm just doing generic Conan, you know, kills a guy and gets a pretty girl, that's not, that's not worth it the reason why the gambler worked is because it was something a little bit different do i have enough something different do i have enough can i bring something to this and so i took the weekend to think about it and by sunday i had like half dozen ideas already for cool story things i was like yeah of course and i called mark and i said yes and he just laughed he goes i i already put it on the schedule like i knew you were going to say yes you just you were you know a little psyched out because we dropped this on you out of the blue And at the time, I was co-writing Iron Man with Dan Slott, and I called up Tom Brevoort, who was the editor on Iron Man in the Avengers group.

And as soon as he, you know, picked up the call, he's like, so you're quitting Iron Man? And I was like, yes.

And he was just like, dude, it's Conan.

Yeah, for real.

And it pissed off a lot of people, including Tom Brevoort.

Tom Brevoort was not the biggest fan of Brian Michael Bendis when he first joined the roster of Avengers writers.

And this is what Tom Brevoort had to say about Bendis' arrival.

Bendis kind of came in with a punk sensibility.

He kind of came in with a, I'm going to tear it all down and then build it back up.

I always knew Avengers was going to work.

It was the getting to that point that was the rough part.

Moore contributed a piece entitled Now We Are All in Guernica, which featured an illustration from his Watchmen collaborator, Dave Gibbons.

In a post to his newsletter Man with a Hat in 2023, Marvel editor Tom Brevoort recalls working with Moore on the benefit book, writing, What you see here is Alan Moore's fax containing his contribution to the Heroes Project, a benefit book pulled together in record time and the aftermath of the 9-11 attacks in 2001.

It wound up being a moot point anyway, as Moore announced that, after the publication of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, The Black Dossier, in 2007, he would be essentially retiring from Monthly Comics and would never work for a major American comics company again, putting a final nail in the Marvel Comics coffin.

That seemed to be that, but decades later, Marvel editor Tom Brevoort was able to shed a little more light on the situation.

Brevoort describes his attempts to recruit more in the early 2000s, and revealed for the first time the one Marvel character that the writer would have been interested in tackling.
