Token Ring

Mm.

But when, when I came first into contact with Linux, there was no Token Ring driver, obviously not.

And, and-

[laughs]

Um, I don't think we got answer.

Uh, but in the meantime, um, the very good capable, um, uh, kernel hackers, um, at the time, Peter Deschryver, who sadly deceased, um, and then, and, and Ivo Claesen, they were there.

And then, then we were implementing reverse engineering Token Ring.

And, um, and was a fantastic, uh, thing that this happened because also modern protocols which are derived from, from that are now high speeds.

When Ethernet became really popular, there were a lot of other networking types out there.

There was TokenRing.

There was ArcNet.

There were proprietary types.

All right, so can you get us the computers? So we got a PO from the school, got a bunch of computers, actually wired up.

I think we were all the way to Ethernet and then it might've been Token Ring.

And we built a whole little mini lab in his office and the rest was history.

That company that we started, I ran for a long time and well after college.

You know, mid-'90s is when I started out doing this stuff.

And, you know, started out at Token Ring and, and coaxial network design and everything from, you know, Exchange and Windows NT 3.51 and, you know, Novell NetWare and, and all the way up to AI and all the things that I'm doing today, and just the vastness of all the way from mainframe to, you know, AI and everything in between.

Um, but to your point, Josh, also is like there's value in that, right? There's value in, in how we've done things in the past and the gotchas.

Like, it's not like just because a new product comes out that we haven't solved this problem before or had these issues before.
