So starting at age four, most Korean parents in South Korea will send the child to learn English.

So that may sound insane to the Western person, but they do it because native fluency of English is actually demanded of them to work at your company, for example, 'cause they take something called a TOEIC score.

Well, Korean parents, I think, are also obsessed with, uh, making sure their kids do well on math, and one of the ways they do it is they give them piano lessons.

And more pianos are sold per capita in South Korea than any other place in the world 'cause every Korean parent thinks if you're really good at piano, you'll be good at math.

When you apply for a job, this is not about getting into this whole national university or going to Harvard.

This is just about the fact that if you want to get a really good job at a big company, you have to take something called a TOEIC exam.

T-O-E-I-C.

And that score is on your resume.

全くできない。全然。ほぼゼロで行って、TOEICとかも多分受けたことなかったし。うん、英語もだから大学で学んでなかったから、もうほんと中学校高校でクラス、それこそハイズ先生みたいなELTの先生に英語を習ってて、別に得意でもないぐらいのレベルで行ったから、本当に最初は語学学校通ってたけど、最初本当に喋れなくて。

だってゆかさんの今の英語はすごくネイティブっぽいリアクションがよく出てます。
