Todd Hamilton

Every time I post a picture of a Sonic Tech fairy wood, there's lots of people who talk about how much they enjoyed using those golf clubs.

They were, they definitely had a time and place where they were extremely popular, which really came to a crescendo with Todd Hamilton winning the open championship.

So we're going to dive into that at the end.

But let's start off this week with things that I like because I, Again, there's a lot of stuff that I've had the chance to test now for a while.

And again, I know Bunker did a piece years ago on this and then Adam Shupak as well wrote something on this years ago too.

And it's the story of SonarTech.

Now, again, golfers of a certain age will remember Sonar Tech, most famously for Todd Hamilton's win in the playoff against Ernie Els at Troon, I believe it was.

And...

You gotta know the right thing to say at the right time.

I'll, I'll never forget this great story about Todd Hamilton, who obviously Open champion, who I played a lot of golf with when I lived in Dallas.

But he, he made a, a bogey somewhere during a big str- uh, a very important moment in the tournament, and his caddie's like, "It's all right.

We'll get it back." He goes, "You can't get it back.

And if you win the Asian order of merit, that gives you a stint, you know, kind of a three quarters of a year in Japan.

And, uh, Brian Watts and Todd Hamilton had won the two previous years for myself and, and they were over there.

So two guys that I had played college golf with that I knew very well.

And, uh, boy, they gave me a quick education on how to, uh, how to figure out how to play in Japan.

well todd hamilton's another good example i mean it wasn't him i'm thinking of but todd hamilton's a great example i mean todd hamilton wins an open championship kind of the only thing he ever did in his career he could be one of your auto qualifiers for the rider cup you want him on your team I mean, that now opens the door for the guy who has the one miraculous finish potentially in his entire career and is nowhere to be found in any other tournament.

Well, the other thing that they've never really put out there is have more captain's picks.

It puts a lot more pressure on the captain, but the players aren't getting scrutinized as much when that happens.
