Yeah
20:32
... and people are so much more isolated.
20:35
We're intrinsically communal beings, but we're, we're experiencing reality in a totally different way.
20:40
And now you have these powerful arguments like, "Hey, I don't want my child to be the only one at school that can't access the website where they get their homework and upload their papers or whatever it may be," or, "I don't wanna be the only parent who can't track my child to make sure I know they're safe." Or now you could say...
21:01
I had, I had a buddy say, "A lot of the advice that my parents gave me that was very good advice, it just feels like it doesn't even apply sometimes to my kids, so that they would say if they saw me glued to the video game, 'Get outside.'"

Is it, what about incriminating others too? Like they must be nice.
63:25
It's because we do it to ourselves that we do it to others.
63:28
Because if you don't respect yourself, you can't fool me.
16:42
Yeah
16:42
... riffing on it.
16:43
And when I couldn't do that, I had to do something else with the thought.
16:47
And you know what I did with the thought? I held onto it and I thought about it some more.
16:51
[chuckles] And because I didn't have that release of being able to immediately broadcast a line of thought that I thought was interesting, I engaged in more self communion.
17:03
I w- in order to get that fulfillment, I would take a walk and I'd tell myself the thought and I'd ask myself, "Well, why is that interesting to me? Why do I care about that? Why is that even worth tweeting?" And then I'd just go deeper with that thought, and I'd sit with it for a while, and it would take me places that I'd begin to realize, "Hmm, social media is kind of preventing me from that because it gives me this easy out.
17:25
But when I have to hold onto it, I go a little deeper in my thinking, and I, and I think I'm liking this.

Like you, you didn't even know to struggle about that before the pause.
