Tina Charles

Can I just say I love, at least so far, that the comments have done a really good job from the outside looking in of including past players.

Like I love every time I look on something and I see something regarding Houston, I see your face or I see Cynthia somewhere or I see Tina somewhere.

I have.

Now, I thought, I thought.

She joins a very elite list of people who have ever won unanimously.

That list include...

Off the top of my head, do I know? Candice Parker, Tina Charles, Aaliyah Boston won unanimously Rookie of the Year.

So...

Um, she, she's had 375 rebounds in just 32 games.

She passes Tina Charles, uh, who set that mark back in 2024.

All right Uh, yeah.

She, she was doing her thing on the rebounding front.

And there was like, concert and the players staying out late and like hanging out with the fans and no one wanted to leave and there was not a dry eye and they had so many times where they got so close to that championship this was a franchise that very likely will go down i mean i'm off i maybe i'm speaking from emotion now but go down as the greatest franchise to never win at all uh so close so many times four finals appearances had jonquil jones for an mvp season had alyssa thomas for such a large portion of her career, Courtney Williams, jazz Thomas, like so many other great players came through there.

Not to forget Tina Charles back in the day, Lindsay Whalen back in the day, just so much amazingness.

Yeah.

Any final thoughts on the Connecticut sun?

In 2016, she led the Sparks to a WNBA title, earning regular season MVP honors along the way.

Having spent 13 of 15 seasons with the Sparks, she retires as the most prolific scorer in franchise history, and fourth on the league-wide all-time list behind only Diana Taurasi, Tina Charles, and DeWanna Bonner.

Then there are all the things that Nneka did off the court.

She served as WNBPA president for the last 10 years, helping negotiate two different transformational collective bargaining agreements in 2020 and then again ahead of the 2026 season.

I don't want that special moment of a little girl seeing an Asia Wilson or a Jackie Young and saying, I can be her.

I don't want little girls to see retired players like Cheryl Swoops or Cynthia Cooper or Tina Charles and see what they're still doing for the league beyond it.

I don't want that taken away.

I don't want the joy that people feel of hearing that whistle and seeing the players run.

Don't put me in a box.

In the studio it was myself, Lauren Jabara, uh, Renee Montgomery, and Tina Charles.

Tina Charles made her debut on television.

Freaking killed it, and her shades killed it.

I'll be honest, um, Tina Charles did not have on my bingo card Tina, like, successfully rocking the tinted shades, you know?

Yeah.

And everybody loved it.

He wears sunglasses like that all the time.

You know, they had some amazing players come through there.

They drafted Tina Charles.

And now that mindset of kind of being close, they've had some teams with the Lindsay Whalen, the Keisha sales, you know, they were close.

And now you're going to a franchise like, Nope, Nope, Nope.
