Ben's second book, Tales of Falling and Flying, was also published by Penguin, and it was named a favorite book of the year by the staff of The Paris Review, and it was named one of the fifty best fantasy books of all time by Esquire magazine.

Ben's fables and tales have appeared in over one hundred magazines and journals, including The New Yorker, Tin House, The Sewanee Review, Electric Literature, Wigleaf, and A Public Space.

And his stories have been heard and performed on This American Life, Selected Shorts, and Word Theater.

And they have also been adapted to short film, live theater, chamber music, and dance.

I don't regret it, but you know, all which is to say, the reason I bring it up is just because I don't, I learned a lot of stuff on the fly.

You do stuff like Tin House or I think the first workshop I did was the Virginia Quarterly Review has a writing workshop.

I did that.

When you meet other writers who are actively working on stuff, you get to be mentored by established writers.

His short story collections include The Train to Lo Wu, Nobody Ever Gets Lost, and the newly published Story Knife.

His fiction has appeared in The New Yorker, The Atlantic, Tin House, Conjunctions, Plowshares, Granta, N Plus One, and elsewhere, and has been anthologized three times in the Best American Short Stories and has won two Pushcart Prizes and a Penn O. Henry Award.

He has received a Guggenheim Fellowship, an NEA Fellowship in Fiction, among other honors.

He directs the undergraduate creative writing program in the Department of English at NYU and is an ordained senior Dharma teacher in the Kuam Um School of Zen.

[chuckles] Uh, we will be revisiting episode eight twenty-two, my conversation with Australian writer Madeline Lucas.

We were discussing her superb debut novel entitled Thirst for Salt, which was published here in the United States by Tin House.

And Thirst for Salt is a beautifully written and totally absorbing novel about a May-December romance between a young woman and a much older man.
