My listeners be appreciative for just kind of hearing, you know, Tim, Tim, the elite runner, how did you deal with a couple of those issues? When did they occur? And, and how are you today? How are you handling them? What's working for you?
26:34
Thank you, Joey.
26:36
So, um, I would say it's kind of a continuum of things shifting and changing throughout your life, but I started noticing maybe some of those intrusive thoughts that are classic with an OCD-type disorder or related kind of a condition when I was in Minnesota, so early days, seven, eight, nine years old.
27:00
you know, probably like a lot of kids raised in the eighties and nineties, you know, you kind of just suppress emotion and you're, you're not really encouraged to be open about things.
27:10
And it's like, Hey, let's just, you know, rub some dirt on it and keep going.
27:13
And, and so, you know, I would say things really started like manifest more and more in high school, but that's a Typical age also where you're just striving to try and fit in.
27:22
And so anything that makes you feel abnormal or unique, you tend to shy away from.

And how can people get involved and how can they help?
12:24
So what, what are some of your goals, Tim? I mean, you know, do you, do you have, obviously time goals are going to be tough not knowing what the course looks like, but like whether they're performance or just experience type goals, you know, do you have any that you're willing to share?
12:42
So maybe this is a way to get to an answer to your question.
12:48
Last week, we have this great little local run club here in Mammoth.
12:52
And one of our group leaders concocted this really fun competition last week where it was like, let's call it an ability graded race, kind of like Dipsy, where it's like, hey, everyone has a chance to win.
13:06
And so like we were asked to give like what we thought we could run a flat 5K in to like help seed our spaces.
13:12
And on the back end, I was like, I think I'm still in this space of like overestimating my ability as a runner.
13:17
Like, so there's that competitive brain that still thinks like I'm 30.

9 MINS LATER

22:10
do you think that that would maybe tip those scales a little bit more, or do you think that they would be better suited to invest in the competition side versus the media side?
37:10
Who is that guy?
37:11
And he's there on site as an intern for Hoka.
37:15
And he's like, why did you cut holes in your shoes? And we're like, that was our initial connection.
37:20
And he's like, that's really cool.
37:21
You're just trying to tinker with your own footwear.
37:24
And he goes on, what, seven years later to win or eight years later to win UTMB.
37:29
But I really... cherish those six years with the brand and watching it grow.
42:21
And like, obviously if you're under NDA, you can be like, I can't really talk about that stuff, but it feels to me, like I said, like it, it just is a little bit different with the work that you're doing with craft.
17:14
[laughs]
17:14
And they're also removing the logs as, uh, each winter things fall.
17:18
And so I think I just st- like, kinda had this a- aha moment of, wow, like, I've been in this space for 30 years, and I'd never really done true stewardship.
17:27
But then as I got to know more people in the trail and ultra world-I was exposed to this incredible community of stewards that, as you just described, Scott, people are out there every weekend.
17:39
Some of these people never even have run a trail race in their life.
17:42
Others have, and it's just part of what they love about the space.
17:45
And so, like, I, like, have just kind of met people over the last two years, talked with people, listened, and recognized, like, how important these unsung heroes are for the entire industry to kinda operate.
