And for every single during that time, they came back either for an interview or for an acoustic session.

When Neil and Tim Finn did their first Finn Brothers album in 1994, they came back in to promote that.

And so...

I think that they had seen, and certainly their record label had seen GLR as being an important part of the journey that kind of helped them really break through to a much wider audience in the UK.

Not retailers, what they call retailer exclusives that popped up this week, which I didn't add, but if you can go check out Talking Joe, the G.I. Joe podcast, the comics podcast featuring Mark Seddon and Tim Finn, they will talk all about all the different variant covers and there's plenty of them.

Up next, an appropriately titled track from a band that had to kiss and make up after almost a decade of hardly talking to each other, all the while being chart giants since the 1960s.

But first, and this would be the period between Split Ends and joining his brother Neil in Crowded House, it's Tim Finn at 26.

Yesterday we have to leave behind Climbing up that hill, never stop I'd prefer to have you near to me Making the shape that used to be How am I gonna sleep without you? There's an open road on every map Waiting to be traveled down All we need is faith to bridge the gap That lies between our hearts and our minds Staring me blind And I don't need this endless night This lonely night How am I

Get that message out there with new stuff.
J
29:04Justin HamiltonHOST
The other band that I saw recently, well, not band, but I saw Tim Finn, as you know, and that was a really, that was kind of, uh the opposite of the massive attack uh concert in the sense that uh this is 74 years of history of a guy who has had a pretty extraordinary career his his voice is it kind of wavers at certain points it's like he can hit really high he can do really low there somewhere there's there's a part somewhere in the middle that he slightly struggles with but he's also 74 and he's giving it a go and I don't that sounds patronizing he's giving it his all and it adds a level of fragility to the performance which I found really endearing
N
30:02Nick KennedyGUEST
Yeah, I liked how you wrote that because I'd missed that.
N
30:05Nick KennedyGUEST
I'd kind of, in my brain, despite the fact that I love him and they were one of my first favourite bands and all that sort of stuff, I saw some recent footage of the Split Ends gigs and I heard that Tim's voice was faltering in parts and I just sort of went, oh, no, I don't need to see that kind of thing.
J
33:26Justin HamiltonHOST
It's funny, of the first four Crowded House albums, which I think are unassailable, I'd put that run up against any band's run of four albums.
J
33:38Justin HamiltonHOST
But Woodface was my least favourite of the four.
J
33:43Justin HamiltonHOST
And I wasn't sure that I wanted Tim Finn in the band.
J
33:49Justin HamiltonHOST
It felt like he was intruding in a way.
