Clarkson, Hammond, and May managed to achieve that, but in subsequent iterations it felt to me like the show was always being pulled in two directions and never really achieving either.

And my personal take in terms of what Top Gear would need to be if they were to resurrect it again now is that they have to rethink the format in as great a about-turn as the early iteration of, you know, 25 years ago when the show got rebooted from the Chris Goffey era, the Chris Goffey and Tiff Needell era, and became a studio-based, stunt-based entertainment show.

That huge change in format and tone and sensibility, they need to do something again now, 25 years later, to find a new path that works for TV that somehow does straddle those twin needs of entertainment for a wider audience and satisfaction for the enthusiasts.

I don't know what the answer is to that.

They had, they were on a racetrack with, I can't remember the cars.

I think maybe it was an Ariel Atom and a KTM X-Bow, maybe something else.

Um, and from memory you had Tiff there, you had Jason there, Jason Plato, Tiff Needell.

Great drivers, cool cars, on a racetrack.

And they all got legendary-

Carrera Cup, Tiff Needell and, uh, Weaver.
