The charts resulting from this survey are upon various scales dependent upon the needs of navigators and are sold at prices differing with the size of the chart the mississippi and missouri river commissions are in the nature of advisory boards to the chief of engineers by the mississippi river commission that river has been mapped from its mouth far up into illinois and the results published upon various scales the largest being one to twenty thousand in contours another on a scale of one mile to an inch, while the whole alluvial region of the Mississippi from Cairo to the Gulf has been issued in one large map on a scale of four miles to an inch in eight sheets.

The Missouri River Commission has mapped that river from its mouth to the Three Forks in Montana, publishing the maps upon various scales ranging from one mile to an inch upwards.

The Engineer Corps has mapped also the Ohio River from Pittsburgh to its mouth, the Arkansas, Red, White, and Yellowstone Rivers.

Copies of these maps can be obtained by application to the Chief of Engineers.

So little known fact, and I say this is a little known fact because I doubt you've seen anything on it or if you have seen anything on it, it hasn't registered because you get so many messages a day.

But September, is Life Insurance Awareness Month.

They were on dangerous ground.

Because this was a country famous for its hunting, it was also a famous battleground.

If they could not lose the competition, they would lead them into a trap.

The two men led their company toward the Three Forks of the Missouri, deep in Blackfoot country, and did not stop to set a single trap along the way.

Finally, a tactic worked.

When the American fur trappers realized they weren't gaining anything by staying near the Rocky Mountain Boys, they moved away.

One group of American fur trappers went to the Madison River, and the other went to the Jefferson River.

That left Bridger and Fitzpatrick to trap the Gallatin River.

But with brigades of trappers on all three forks of the Missouri River, they easily attracted the attention of Blackfoot warriors.

On the Madison River, the American fur trappers came across a smoldering fire and fresh buffalo carcasses.

So it was, yeah, we bought like right before COVID made everything super, super expensive.

So we got in the market at a really good time in Bozeman and then moved into Three Forks, stayed in Montana for almost five years and then wound up down in Wyoming.

What made you guys start looking outside of Montana, looking more at Wyoming?

We weren't looking.

It's hilarious.

We just bought this place in Three Forks, 10 acres, beautiful home, built our dream gym in the basement.

That was my wife's thing.

I need my gym.

I had some friends in Pierre here quite a few years ago.

Took a pontoon from Three Forks, Montana to Pierre one summer.

They got a YouTube out about it, and it was very interesting.

It took them about two weeks.

Then he goes, it was just like a canal.

Like, you know, like he goes, it was just – he goes, the second half of the trip burned us out.

The following year, they decided to take jet skis from Three Forks, Montana to Pierre, and they did that too.

So they're good enough, but –

Major Henry, born in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, during the early part of the Revolutionary War, had descended the Ohio in his mid-twenties.

He was one of the incorporators of the Missouri Fur Company in 1809, and in the spring and summer of that year had led an expedition up the Missouri to the Three Forks, where a trading post had been established.

Driven thence by the terrible Blackfeet, he had crossed the Continental Divide and built a fort on what has since been called Henry's Fork of the Snake River, thus being the first American trader to operate west of the Rockies.

Having spent there the winter of 1810-11, Henry, finding this position also extremely difficult, if not impossible, to hold against the Indians, had returned to St. Louis during the following summer.

On April 15, 1822, some three weeks before Jed Smith, their future comrade and leader, had set foot upon the St. Louis landing, these hundred men with two keel boats loaded with trapping supplies and goods for the Indian trade had begun the long ascent of the Missouri under the leadership of Major Henry.

General Ashley had accompanied them, intending to ascend to the mouth of the Yellowstone and return to the States in the fall.

The first objective of the expedition was the Three Forks of the Missouri, where, as rumor had it, existed a wealth of furs not surpassed by the mines of Peru.

From thence, trapping parties would work the creeks and rivers on both sides of the Great Divide, and if circumstances should prove favorable, the party would later move on down the trail of Lewis and Clark even to the mouth of the Columbia.
