[laughs]

... impulsive but well-meaning, good-hearted, uh, g- youthful, chaotic mess aspect.

And, um, so I sort of tuned into parts of that character and then brought in some other ones specifically for it.

But again, the whole time not knowing what it was for.

And then when I got it, it was like it ...

Even that process was long.

So by the time it came around I was like, "Oh, it's X-Men.

Um, a- and, you know, and Al- Alison Court, who's just a delight, and, uh, you know, Alison Sealy-Smith, like everybody.

There you go

... was just from my co-star, who's a fan, and, um, kind of filled me in on everything.

And, um, but it's been interesting 'cause we've been, we've been recording everything so out of order and out of sequence.

And one of the things I really admire about this show, aside from the animation, which I just think is so beautiful, you know, getting to go to the premiere and see it on a huge screen.

I grew up obsessed with the hand-drawn Disney, you know, era of the '90s, and so it was just beautiful to see it, the colors and everything.

Um, but what I really appreciate is, like, this show cares about the writing and the characters, like, more than most on-camera shows I've done, if I'm being honest.

Like, they really...

Mm-hmm

But if you knew the others and you knew that they were special to a lot of people, what was your thought going in on how the approach went?

Well, you know, it was intimidating, of course, but I'd sort of just gone through that with playing John Connor in The Terminator.

Tell, I'd only wrapped The Terminator show maybe a month or a month and a half before I did Nightmare on Elm Street.

I found out the show was canceled while filming, uh, Nightmare on Elm Street, filming my prison scene.

[laughs] On our lunch break, I had a text message from the creator of Sarah Connor Chronicles, and he told me it was done.

Um, so I'd been through that, stepping onto IP and beloved territory.

I think the original script of this Nightmare remake was vastly different than what the finished product was, and I kind of knew that it would be because what I really loved about the script was it was really dark, and it really got into Freddy is not a child killer.

Did it require a lot of acting to respond to that when a human being is being flung around like that?
