Thomas Arne

Finis.

End of Alfred the Great by Thomas Arne.

Play seven of One Act Play Collection 20: A Sunny Morning by Brothers Serafin and Joaquin Alvarez Quintero.

Translated from the Spanish by Lucretia Xavier Floyd.

You probably heard some version of this old nursery rhyme.

It was written by Englishman Thomas Arne way back in 1777.

On this side of the Atlantic, there was this little thing called the American Revolution happening that year.

That little thing our nation is celebrating as I record this in 2026, the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and the founding of the United States of America.

Rule Britannia, rule the waves, Britons never, never, never will be slaves.
