This Mother Thing

I began to really feel like I was exploring themes of grief and loss, of love, of identity, of self, of womanhood, of voice in the world and trauma.

And I wrote a song called This Mother Thing and I put it on Instagram, really terrified, thinking no other women would sort of resonate with it.

The chorus was, "'Will you go but also stay? "'Will you grow but also never change?' And that ambivalence of motherhood I now know is really common.

You know, we want them to leave us alone.
