This Is Your Life

i didn't enjoy it

well i remember from the jump being intrigued by the premise of this movie because um you know i listen to radio programs a lot uh when i go to bed at night and one of the ones that i listened to a lot as a teenager was um a 1949 episode of the suspense series which was like an anthology radio show and um There's a particular episode that starred Ralph Edwards, who that name means nothing to anyone younger today, but he was the host of the very popular This Is Your Life show for many years.

And in the suspense episode, he played...

A, you know, radio host, disc jockey kind of guy who was...

My grandfather's life and helping rescue him when he was shot down a month before D-Day and also in many other downed Allied airmen and also French villagers and basically anyone who crossed paths with Peter Ortiz had a pretty remarkable impact and effect.

And so, yeah, I'd say about 10 years ago, I went to the UCLA Film and TV Library, knowing that there's an old show called This Is Your Life with Ralph Edwards.

Some people might remember the TV version before that was the radio version.

And, uh, this was this neat show where there would be like an interesting person of the day who come on and Ralph Edwards would, uh, sort of surprise that person and bring people to tell the story of their lives who've been impacted by this person.

Are they really going to use this information that I nearly lost my life for sort of thing?

I mean, at this point, I think it's like, you know, you know, being in the OSS that you've agreed to, you know, this will all be wiped from any records coming out of the war.

That even that this is your life episode existed is a neat exception to the regular rule that most of the stuff was classified for 50 years.

Right.
