Third World Women's Alliance

There'd be many more women involved, and women's emancipation at the same time requires the defeat of imperialism, even though it's not automatic, clearly.

So that's the theory that arose from the Vietnamese Women's Union, from the Third World Women's Alliance, from some sectors of the Black Panther Party, from a lot of our experience in the '60s and '70s, and that's the theory that basically animates the book.

That's really so critically important, and yeah, and I'm, I'm glad that you so nicely articulated the theoretical intervention here because I, I see that interplay as so vital.

The theoretical correction or intervention to offer anti-imperialism more broadly, and, and I think that ought to impact the programmatic demands of an anti-imperialist movement in the way that, you know, in a similar way or analogous way that anti-imperialism as a set of programmatic demands ought to influence the struggle against capitalism and vice versa, et cetera.

Second thread jumps off of that point to argue, hey, there have been a bunch of grassroots organizers who have been doing this work for a while.

And I name things like the Black Women's Liberation Committee, um, which later on became the Third World Women's Alliance, or TWWA for short, where they were kind of the first ones of the 1970s feminist wave, that sort of spike that we see in the movement, um, at that, at that time period.

They were the first ones, and they were, like, women of color, uh, femmes of color, who were doing work to, uh, recognize sexual violence as a, as something that's harmful for communities, and also doing something about it.

So they were deliberately publishing, um, a lot of newsletters around this.
