Third Period

Cannon headed up that faction, and they formed the Socialist Workers Party, what is the Socialist Workers Party today, and they had a few hundred members.

Um, [lip smack] the Communist Party, uh, in the late '20s and '28, uh, we thought that a world, uh, crisis was coming and the revolution was on the horizon, and we did what was considered back then called the Third Period, where the party moved to pretty far to the left.

Instead of working in regular trade unions and trying to change those, we formed our own red trade unions.

We even had a military organization, semi-military organization, um, that existed out of New York.
