He was in the lab full-time by this point and researching ways to safely control the range of Theraphosa fecundem, a large spider that holds the general shape of a Goliath bird eater, but with some fundamental differences to the tarantula you're familiar with.

The females of T. fecundem, or spider ticks, as the higher-ranking field operatives call them, are the size of a dinner plate, with rough leathery skin in place of the usual hard carapace.

They possess no hair and exaggerated fangs.
