Theosis

By receiving a union, we never should have misplaced in the first place.

Theosis is something that we have invented.

It's something we have forgotten.

And we must notice it again.

All right.

So a few weeks ago in our Mysticism Word by Word series, hey, buddy, we talked about theosis and how theosis is the goal of the Christian life.

And many Christians were never taught that, especially Western Christians.

But the goal of our faith is theosis.

In Orthodox Christianity, the whole purpose of Orthodox Christianity, and you talk to any monk, talk to any priest, is theosis.

The purpose is theosis.

Theosis is union with God.

And when they say union with God, okay, we have all these perceptions of what God is.

I'm not talking man in the sky God.

Oh, well, gal.

Tacos, by the way, is an acronym for Theosis, always calling our spirit.

You realize that, right?

Yeah, you told me.

So the philosophical movement that emphasizes inner illumination in the pursuit of divine knowledge.

Now, what is it called in Eastern Orthodox? It's called like theosis, right? Theosis.

That's very similar, I think, to... yeah eastern orthodox christianity theosis is very much the purpose of human life it's only achieved through synergy or cooperation of human activity and god's uncreated yeah so this is man exhibiting himself within the presence of god in his life theosis is associated with another term i'm not saying that theosis is like the same thing but i'm saying that you can weaponize this that's all i'm saying you can weaponize it because they have that within their kind of theology at this point with the degradation

Theosis, becoming, not becoming God, but becoming more like God, that's mysticism.

And in the Reformed world, we have what is called the doctrine of the imputed righteousness of Christ.

So I actually affirm what Theosis is trying to protect, okay? Christians really are united to Christ.

We're transformed and sanctified and ultimately glorified.

My concern is that Eastern Orthodoxy can make the question of how a sinner is declared righteous before God unnecessarily ambiguous, right? by folding justification into this larger vague process of healing and participation in the divine life.
