Lee CalvertHOST
28:53
Worth a shout, then, that Ben Spencer's not in the squad for England.
Lee CalvertHOST
28:58
Theo Dan's not in.
Lee CalvertHOST
28:59
Ted Hill's not in.
Lee CalvertHOST
29:00
Charlie Ewells isn't in.
WillHOST
55:15
But if we have a look at the comparison of squads this week in comparison to last week, so last week against Bristol, Their front row was Phil Brantingham, Jamie George, and Alec Clary.
WillHOST
55:27
This week, it was Rhys Carey, Theo Dan, Marcus Street.
WillHOST
55:30
It's a completely different front row.
WillHOST
55:32
The second row last week was Sudeca and George Martin.
Andy GoodeHOST
24:41
Staying in the four pack, Kepu Tupulotu.
Andy GoodeHOST
24:44
Now that obviously the hooker one, we've chatted about Nathan Djibouti potentially, Theo Dan as other players that have been in around the mix.
Andy GoodeHOST
24:52
Kepu Tupulotu, although he butchered about four driving line outs at the weekend in terms of scoring them himself, but he has been on fire for Bath as an individual.
Andy GoodeHOST
25:02
And he's got a completely different X-factor to some of the other hookers in the squad, Jamie George and Luke Cowan-Dickey.
RoryHOST
54:18
And, you know, in contrast, from a Saracen side of things, you know, no real impact from each side.
RoryHOST
54:24
Theo Dan had a few good carries, but not, like, massively impactful.
RoryHOST
54:28
George Martin, not hugely present.
DaveHOST
54:31
Yeah, I was really surprised how unimpactful he was in the carry.
Chris JonesHOST
20:51
And Archie McFarlane may well have gone on the tour, probably would have gone on the tour had he not picked up that leg injury right at the end of the season, wasn't it, in the Prem final? So...
Chris JonesHOST
21:00
Archie McParland coming in as the third nine is fresh and Kepi Turpilotti coming in because the hookers for ages, ages, pretty much since the last World Cup have been Jamie, George, Luke, Cameron, Dickie and Theo, Dan.
Chris JonesHOST
21:11
But the question for me is, are Archie McParland and Kepi Turpilotti going to get time on the pitch this, this nation's championship? you're shaking your head or you go suggesting not.
Chris JonesHOST
21:21
And I think if you're picking nines for Australia, I think JVP starts with Mitchell on the bench because if we move on to the action from the weekend, I thought JVP outkicked Mitchell quite significantly at Welford Road.
Ben YoungsHOST
19:20
Arthur Clarke's in there.
Ben YoungsHOST
19:22
Theo Dan misses out.
Ben YoungsHOST
19:23
Again, you look at Luke Karandik, you look at Jamie George.
Ben YoungsHOST
19:26
Are we missing a trick here? Are we getting another hooker involved? Obviously, Tua Plotu's in there of Bath.
Ben YoungsHOST
19:30
And I think that, you know, is he going to be a bag holder or is he actually going to get some minutes? Like, there's some bits that need to...
Ben YoungsHOST
19:38
um play out shall we say
Dan ColeHOST
19:41
yeah there is and i think you know as regards like courtney it's like yes if he plays the season really well you can bring him into our cup camp and he's 100 caps you know what he's going to do he's going to deliver so there's opportunities to have um a look at a this world or and and similar it's kind of like i again this is probably my not frustration but you look at like you know what jamie george can do i know you got um Two plotters come in there and Theo Dan, but you're a bit like, actually, I know what these veteran kind of guys can do.
Dan ColeHOST
20:09
Maybe I can bring them in for the World Cup.
Elgan AldermanPANELIST
39:06
It feels like for a long time now, England have struggled for who that third hooker could be that could then challenge Jamie George and Luke Cowan-Dickey for the top two spots.
Elgan AldermanPANELIST
39:15
We've seen Theo Dan is sort of the perennial come and go third choice man.
Elgan AldermanPANELIST
39:19
Now Kepi Tupelotu, who we know how dynamic he is around the field, a rambunctious ball carrier and able to win turnovers over the ball, perhaps question marks over the line, as there often are with these ball carrying number twos whose strengths maybe lie elsewhere.
Elgan AldermanPANELIST
39:34
But It feels like he's someone that over the next year could really force his way in if he gets the opportunity.
Alex LowePANELIST
39:46
But behind him, I don't think if the game is on the line, England would want Jamie George on the field to hit his man because Luke Handicke is not as good as Jamie George.
Alex LowePANELIST
39:57
And behind Luke...
Alex LowePANELIST
39:59
You've got Theo Dan, who's now dropped out of the squad, whose throwing was wayward on Sunday, and Kepu, whose throwing was wayward on Friday.
Alex LowePANELIST
40:07
Both Kepu and Theo Dan are magnificent around the field, but Jamie George is a class above everybody else when it comes to hitting the man in the line-out.
Tim CockerHOST
61:22
Let me list off the names.
Tim CockerHOST
61:24
Welsh international Rhys Carra, English international Theo Dan, Mario Itoji, George Martin, Ben Earl.
Tim CockerHOST
61:30
Scottish international Andy Onyama-Christie.
Tim CockerHOST
61:33
That's just...
Dan ColeHOST
11:02
there isn't.
Dan ColeHOST
11:03
you say about the core of the team but I think because England haven't performed particularly well in recent in the year it does mean I think there's a lot of positions that are potentially up in the air I look at Hooker and I say ideally you have you know Jamie George and you have Luke Kamdickey who have played a lot of international rugby you know they're tested but actually you're at that stage where maybe you put in a Theo down and you go Theo this is your you know you've got sort of caps early 20s or teens and like this is your chance to start no pressure on you to perform but you know play the game you've got an exceptional ceiling potentially but be really solid and you know then show us what you can do not chase the game and you know try and pull things out your ass but be really good because I know that come the World Cup come the Six Nations I can put in Jamie George I can put in Cowan Dickey because I know what they're about and actually they don't need to play every minute of every game I can sort of just see what the depth is.
Dan ColeHOST
11:52
And actually Theo Dan, for instance, is somebody who maybe gives you a higher ceiling than the other two.
Dan ColeHOST
11:57
And you go, actually, he's a fantastic player internationally.
Dan ColeHOST
12:00
He might not be.
Robbie OwenGUEST
12:21
It's one of those things about keeping half an eye after the World Cup as well, isn't it? And you get some players training for the squad and used to that.
Robbie OwenGUEST
12:26
If you're potentially looking at someone replacing, like Jamie George, who's planning to retire after the World Cup, and there'll no doubt be a few more names added to that heap over the course of the next year.
Robbie OwenGUEST
12:36
So that becomes a really interesting... point and yeah like there's a few the likes of will joseph right who i think i probably agree as a 13 i don't feel he's necessarily an international 13 at the minute but like on the wing where i think he's had a couple of really strong games for gloucester you wonder whether perhaps there's more opportunity for him there to break into that team uh the likes of george hendy who's been in or around that kind of conversation for quite a few years with northampton you think back to him a few years ago creating that winning try for alex mitchell in the And I think that's probably the sort of profile player you want to be leaning into, right? Is more likely the players like George Hendy and like Theo Dan, who are really experienced Prem players, who've had really strong careers over the course of a few years and built a kind of body of work.
RoryHOST
47:58
It's a weird injury
DaveHOST
47:58
... to the Theo Dan injury, haven't they? Um-
RoryHOST
48:00
Yeah.
DaveHOST
48:00
Yeah.
