The World Stage

It was, you know, we were kids and, you know, we, you know, for us, you know, South Central L.A., we all grew up playing in this area called Leimert Park.

And Billy Higgins had a club there called the World Stage.

And it was actually my very first concert I ever went to.

My dad took me to the World Stage.

I was probably eight or nine,

seven.

Can you break down for the people watching what the world stage is and what it represents?

World stage is where I learned what not to write in poetry.

Along the way, she's continued to write with her work appearing in Essence Magazine, Voices of Leimert Park, Anathology, and most recently, the Massachusetts Review.

She's a longtime member of the Anassi Writers Workshop at the World Stage, her literary home.

The World Stage is a major spot in Los Angeles where spoken word is done, theater and everything.

It's a major thing in the community.

And anyway, so that's her literary home.
