I'm watching that World War II 26-part documentary from the 70s narrated by Sir Lawrence Olivier.

Boy, that's what I'm watching every night.

I have other people that said Tracy's watching World at War with me as well.

Yeah, it's a very good one.

You threaded the needle and it's now, now we can't touch these dice again because they will betray us if we ever play this game again.

Yeah, but what's super funny to me is the cultural touchstone for all of us around the table is a TV show called The World at War with Lance Olivier, so Larry Olivier narrates about World War II and there's an episode about the Soviet Union and there's an episode about the Eastern Front And on it they have survivors on the Eastern Front.

You know, and you sort of think, oh, are these Night Witches that have survived this game? Wow.

Like, they've only turned up in a documentary on BBC Two in, like, 30 years' time.

Just coming to you like a bat out of hell who's stuck in three hurricanes off the Pacific Ocean and who has no regrets whatsoever.

Anyways, welcome to World at War, the number one late night shadow band show that's quite often late.

I was unable and not allowed to get on here tonight to be with all of you all over the world because probably tonight's title of this incredible episode is Political Doomsday.

which in French it means political doomsday now.

But I think there's a lot of people, when news of this film came out, were saying, why is it about her? Well, you know, there are a million stories in the world, and this one happens to be about James Stagg, who I was familiar with because I'm being a man of a certain age, and like many men of that particular age, being slightly obsessed with the Second World War.

I've watched The World at War, the great early 1970s documentary series, many, many times, and Stagg is in it.

Being made in the 70s, he's still a fresh-faced man in his late 40s, I would say.

And he's this very cautious, very precise, logical Scot who talks in a very interesting fashion about his relationship with General Eisenhower.

But yeah, and so I was thinking, you know, that this documentary was made around the same time that The World at War came out.

I think he must have loved The World at War.

Yeah.

That must have been, you know, and he must have really thought, oh, you know, Olivier, if only I can beat Olivier, I want to be in the new Olivier or whatever.
