The Winter of Frankie Machine

If you're going to read Don Winslow's books, what would you read first? And this I agree with because it's a standalone, not within the two threesomes, as it were, on the border and then on the Irish Mafia.

The winner of Frankie Machine is what they recommend would be the first one.

If you haven't read Don, you'll read this story about a mafia hitman who retires.

He's got a little bait shop selling beer and bait up on a pier here in San Diego.

And things transpire where he has to kind of come out of retirement if you get my drift as a hitman and take care of some business that he'd rather not do now am i remembering this correctly or not that the great robert de niro wanted to play that character yes in a movie

yeah yes and someone else sent him another book as research for playing frankie machine And De Niro and Scorsese ended up liking that book better.

It was called You Paint Houses, Don't You, I think.

And made a movie out of that called The Irishman.
