The Vanishing

I wouldn't say it's a comfort watch.

It's the anti-comfort watch, the original version of The Vanishing from 1988, which is a horror film that very much is about the psychology of the villain.

So if you haven't seen that one and you're interested in mental health and film, I think, or mental states and film, The Vanishing is one I would recommend.

So those are a few I've been watching.

In George Sluicers, or Sluices, 1988, The Vanishing, or Sporlos, which means Without a Trace, Rick Ramos, What do you think of this movie?

I got a history with this movie and it's I mean, anybody who's listened to these shows that we do over the last decade or so know that I have a collection of movies that are in the thousands probably and um probably half of those are sitting on the shelf having never been watched or you know i just i i got a weird kind of addiction but um the beauty of this show has been to give me the opportunity to go to deep dive into them originally when i when i first heard about this film I think it was on a best-of-the-year episode of Siskel and Ebert and the movies.

And back then in the mid-'80s into the early-'90s, a lot of what I discovered about cinema was through that show, through the bickering of those two men.

I guess you're right.

But my inspiration came from films like The Vanishing, that 1980s.

Oh, that's

beautiful.

Yeah, so the original, the vanishing film, they're the horror films that I grew up watching, which I think are the most horrific.

And I think because Australia is in the middle of America and, you know, we watch, we get American, we get European films, a lot of Korean horrors.

So I think we take a bit from all of it.

You know, because you get like the punk rock, you get the gritty, you get the dirty, you get the, you know, the ugly and the nasty and the fun.
