The Undoing

What the fuck? Let's just back it up a little bit and get into some details about the film.

Practical Magic 2 was directed by Suzanne Beer, who also directed Bird Box, The Undoing, and The Perfect Couple.

Okay, so yes, I believe I've mentioned this before on the podcast that...

She has worked clearly with both Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman multiple times.

I know that a lot of people loved Bird Box.

I feel like I fell asleep every time I watched it.

The Undoing was cute.

It was fine.

It's eight episodes.

And it reminded me of those things like The Undoing from a few years ago with Hugh Grant and Nicole Kidman.

It's got that kind of slightly tense, twisty vibe to it.

I've got one episode left, so I'm excited to watch that.

If that one worked for you with its deadpan absurdity wrapped around a mystery, I think this will too.

And if you're drawn to the prestige side of it, The Grief, The Suburban Rot, The Investigation Peeling Back a Community's Secrets, Then Think Sharp Objects, Mayor of East Town, The Outsider, The Undoing, The Staircase, Love and Death.

If those shows sit well with you, there's a very good chance this one will as well.

I'd also point Conrad Newcomers toward Patriot on Prime Video afterwards.

Did I mention Goliath? Did I mention The Firm? You know, many, many fabulous and interesting shows that he's worked on, and many of them have to do with being a lawyer because he was a lawyer.

Now, Gillian remains the freer and more adventurous Owens sister still, encouraging Sally and her daughters to accept rather than suppress their magical abilities, still leaning into the queer-adjacent thing here.

Nicole Kidman is obviously best known for Moulin Rouge, she was Oscar nominated, The Hours, she won an Oscar, Eyes Wide Shut, The Others, Lion, Big Little Lies, and The Undoing.

All of these things have made Nicole Kidman a mega star since 1998.

She won, as I said, the Academy Award for The Hours, um, and now has five Academy Award nominations.

But look, Kidman has produced this sequel and reunited with the director Susanne Bier, who worked with her on The Undoing, but also worked with Sandra Bullock on Bird Box.

I downloaded that actually Amanda Land great perfect couple haven't watched that season two is out I've actually re-watched The Undoing do you remember with Hugh Grant and Nicole Kidman what's it about you love it you know there's a murder okay I'll watch that you told me to watch it the first time Five Star Weekend what's that like I really wanted to love it.

Netflix is clearly bringing out the big guns here, treating this as prestige television.
