The Transsexual Empire

Many of us have been active feminists since the 70s or even the 60s, and we weren't surprised when the threat of gender identity ideology came along, partly having read Janice Raymond's 1979 The Transsexual Empire which predicted all of this.

And then more recently, well, then quite quickly after that, Mary Daly's 1984 Gynecology mentions this sort of thing.

And then more recently, Sheila Jeffery's Gender Hurts 2014, a feminist analysis of the politics of transgenderism, it outlines the problems.

Many of us have been active, um, feminists since the '60s or the '70s or '80s.

Um, we were not surprised when this new attack on women came along, um, partly because many of us had read Janice Raymond's The Transsexual Empire, which was published in 1979, and also the G- Gynecology by Mary Daly.

There was lots of writing about it.

But lots of feminists were aware of the threats of men saying that they're women, what that can do to women's rights.

These are the gender wars, or, if you like, the trans wars.

So then I go on to explain a lot about the history of all of this.

What on, what on earth is trans? What do people mean by gender identity? I talk about Janice Raymond's 1979 book, which Jo mentioned, The Transsexual Empire, and we go on to trace a little bit of the history of what happened.

And then I say this paragraph, "And so, out of the wilderness grew a community of women labeled TERFs.
