The Taking of Pelham One Two Three

Is this real

fucking taking of Pelham 1-2-3? This is so meta-textual.

I'm about to explain...

I'm about to explain... all the ways that railway safety systems stop you from taking a Pelham 123, right? Okay.

Yeah, this would make the railway series a lot more boring.

I'm a prison abolitionist, but for trades.

This is the system that stops you from being able to take a Pelham 1-2-3 in the first place, right? This relies on a lot of modern electronics and horror horrors computers to run, right? Yeah.

I found a computer to be extremely useful.

Um, like action stars are action stars now, and I feel like I was really drawn to this because Toby feels like an anti-hero and, and a fresh, uh, approach to that.

So I, I was referencing or watching a lot of The Long Goodbye, Pelham One Two Three, The Brinks Job, Assault on Precinct 13.

After Hours, Scorsese's After Hours was like maybe our biggest inspiration because it's like, uh, just one night structure, bad decision leading, leading you on the course of a, a night where the protagonist is trying to get things back to normal and reality is becoming increasingly absurd the entire [laughs] time.

Um, so that was, like, my favorite reference for it, but of course, it's a different genre.

So that is The Sting.

Next week we're finishing out heist movie month with The Taking of Pelham One Two Three, the original from the '70s, not the remake.

So-

Any of them.
