The Sword in the Stone

And I'm Jackie.

And we are here this week to review and discuss The Sword in the Stone.

It is my birthday coming up, I have picked the slate of films that we are going to review this month, and I couldn't help myself but to put this in the slate.

In fact, I could not believe that we were 388 episodes in to Monoreal Radio and we had not yet discussed The Sword in the Stone.

It sort of defies logic, because I adore this film, it's an animated classic, and I could not figure out why it took us this long until...

I really deep-dived into it, and I saw the release date was December 25th, 1963.

Honestly, I think this is some of the best animation and some of the most gorgeous title cards that we have ever seen.

Like I love it with the old English font and all of the filigree, the color, like this is just 10 out of 10 Disney animation opening up a story and, This also goes to show how unfamiliar I am with this movie.

Uh, and there's something I know I'm forgetting that I'll regret not bringing up later, but, um, It might be number one, honestly.

Oh, and Emperor's New Groove.

Again, this will be coming in summer of 2027.

And there will be new floats inspired by Cinderella, the Sword in the Stone, and Coco.

Nice.

So Disneyland.

The old animated cartoon has it.

They're doing a lot of practice in the yards, and then there's a big joust at the end, and it's great.

So essentially, Galahad and the Grail is being followed by two prequels.

So The Coming of Arthur, which comes out in November, and is going to – all the things you would – I mean, a lot of the stuff in Galahad and the Grail might be unfamiliar to people who've just seen The Sword in the Stone or whatever.

But The Coming of Arthur will give you all the stuff you always wanted in terms of, you know, it's got the sword in the stone, and it's got Excalibur in the lake, and, you know, it's got Guinevere, it's

got the coronation and so

on.

coming back.

And like I said, it features celebrates films like Cinderella, Sword in the Stone and Cocoa.

Beautiful, beautiful parade.

I stand firm in my opinion that that's the best parade in a U.S. Disney park right now.

Like, yes, here is Merlin.

He's the Merlin from The Sword and the Stone.

Also, here's the sword, you know? Yes, exactly.

There are some direct parallels in his universe, but this doesn't sound like it's one of them.

whore and that's what Hades is giving And okay, final contestant in this category is Merlin from The Sword and the Stone.

So the thing about Merlin is he's like a twink who is also a crone.

Yes, he is.

One is to drive out the Saxons.

This is why I'm not steeped in modern Arthuriana, but my children watch a lot of Sword in the Stone, the Disney Sword in the Stone.

And it says, King of England the whole time, which...

I mean, that's just terrible because the whole point in these sort of first sources where he's a historical figure is that he is driving out the Saxons.
