The Sword in the Stone

What a bursting heart of gratitude and triumph as the ravening monster slowly paced down the arm.

As my new English teacher, Jonathan Bird, had certainly read the T.H. White essay I'd plagiarized, I hadn't known who White was, or that he'd written The Sword in the Stone.

I'd just found the goshawk passage somewhere and taken it because I liked hawks and the way it was written.

What if Bird asked about the goshawk essay? What would I say? My throat closed.

And Forrest Bess is really, prime example of that um so he's the one i always talk about and on wednesday so i'm giving a talk at the christine man library um and doing the same one online for folks who are not in new york city at the london college of psychic studies but i always talk about forest best whenever i can because um He dealt with consciousness, embodiment, art, psychology, being up against it, being sort of from the future.

There's a quote at the beginning of the book that comes from T.H. White's The Sword in the Stone, where Merlin's describing having to live in time backwards and how annoying it is that the reason he's a magician is actually because he was born at the front end of time going backwards.

So now he's stuck in the Middle Ages, like knowing about radios and microwaves and feeling frustrated.

And I feel like alchemists are like that.
