The Swimmers

To see that someone who has also had to leave home is competing at the highest level of their sport can be incredibly inspiring.

You may have heard of Yursa Bardini, a Syrian swimmer whose story inspired the Netflix film, The Swimmers.

Yursa grew up swimming in Damascus long before she became a refugee.

In 2015, she and her sister, Sarah, fled Syria.

So I think we can see that the leaders out there in the world are perpetuating the bias and the stereotypes and the prejudices against displaced people and refugees.

So I hope that more and more leaders will be able to be vocal and brave and see films like Fabric and films like The Swimmers and then say, well, obviously there's probably another narrative out there.

Maybe we shouldn't just be looking at this in a certain way.

And these are people who are trying to rebuild lives.

Yes, and I want to share one, my personal recommendation, actually, advice.

I don't know, maybe you are watching one, a movie, this name is The Swimmers, based on the true story for two Syrian sisters.

Okay.

It tells the story about their way from war and displacement to find safe life in Europe.

And it's so real story and it's a little deeply human story about migration and survival.

And they can watching the swimmers, this name is.

Did you ever see a movie and then you just couldn't wait to tell someone that you saw a movie? Well, that's what happened to me.

Last night, I watched a film called The Swimmers.

It's a 2022 film that they say is a biographical sports drama directed by Sally L. Hosseini and co-written by Jack Thorne.

Now...

And if you're already a survivor, that you feel empowered and proud of what you've been through.

and that you are carving out the new normal and the new you.

I personally enjoyed it, and I also really liked their interpretation of what the refugee situation was.
