The Snowman

It's When the Wind Blows.

This was screened for the 40th anniversary, directed by Jimmy T. Murakami, who directed The Snowman.

And it is utterly fucking harrowing, but also one of the best animated films I've ever seen.

Very, very sad.

Because

for me, it's Fungus the Bogeyman was a creation of Raymond Briggs, who also did The Snowman.

And Fungus the Bogeyman was a brilliant, beautifully illustrated book.

But I don't know, did it exist before that? Is it a 19th century thing? Does it go back in time?

So I've been listening to a bit of that.

And this morning on the way to school, I played Howard Blake's The Snowman.

I've listened to it.

It was great.

We're going for it.

So I got him a sleep mask and he wanted to take it to school with him in the car.

And he put it on and he actually fell asleep to the snowman on the way to school.

Yeah.

The talent beh- behind the camera...

H- Has anyone, um, heard of, um, the wonderful, uh, animated film from the '80s, uh, called The Snowman based on the children's book by Raymond Briggs? Uh, one of the a- um, animators from that, uh, directed, uh, Battle Beyond the Stars.

Oh.

And, um, it was his only time, uh, directing live action.

So Raymond Briggs-

Yeah.

So my dad, very young, introduced us to Where the Wind Blows, which I don't know, by Raymond Briggs.

So Raymond Briggs is the guy who did The Snowman.

Mm-hmm.

Um, and I feel like these are, like, the...

[laughs]

... obviously I, I had said to you as well, Raymond Briggs really fucked me up as a kid with The Snowman.

Yeah.

And this was just so...

I could just see where it was going.

Yeah.

And obviously in The Snowman, you know, he melts and I'm like, "Oh, this is..." Larry's obviously not gonna melt, but he's not-
