In 1997, Blade formed the fellowship band with pianist John Coward, bassist Chris Thomas, saxophonist Myron Walden and Melvin Butler, guitarist Jeff Parker, and pedal steel guitarist Dave Easley.

The band released its debut album in 1998.

Blending folkloric references, hints of church and spiritual concerns, jazz modality, and countrified touchstones.

Tonight's album, we're going to be covering the Brian Blade Fellowship, the album Perceptual, released on the Blue Note label in the year 2000.
