Joel Kim BoosterGUEST
30:14
So what else is there? Yeah.
Joel Kim BoosterGUEST
30:16
I will tell you, my husband who works in video games, he worked for the Sims for many, many years.
Joel Kim BoosterGUEST
30:22
And he, it's funny, we were talking about astrology.
Joel Kim BoosterGUEST
30:26
When he moved to LA, he was like, this is bullshit, obviously.
Joel Kim BoosterGUEST
30:30
And now he's been in LA and he's like, this is bullshit, maybe.
Joel Kim BoosterGUEST
30:35
Because here's the thing about it, is when he was working on The Sims, they would create and generate NPCs that would go and live in these towns and neighborhoods on The Sims.
Joel Kim BoosterGUEST
30:44
But they were realizing that they were creating too many NPCs that had similar personality traits too close together.
Joel Kim BoosterGUEST
30:52
So they created basically what was a clock.
Kala ElizabethGUEST
16:28
I think that EA over time has just slowly become more and more... numbers on a spreadsheet.
Kala ElizabethGUEST
16:38
That's why there's been more push for monetization, microtransactions, you know, their sports games, um, like, you know, uh, with this latest rounds of cuts, they also cut the Sims.
Kala ElizabethGUEST
16:50
I mean, not all of it, but the Sims, which is like one of their major, I mean, the Sims is a big EA.
Kala ElizabethGUEST
16:58
Yeah.
Kala ElizabethGUEST
16:58
Big EA pillar.
Bing GordonGUEST
39:59
The interesting thing about tag, what you find out is the most fun happens when you're about to tag or be tagged.
Chloe GordonGUEST
40:06
The Sims.
Bing GordonGUEST
40:07
The Sims.
Bing GordonGUEST
40:08
Just classic.
Bing GordonGUEST
40:09
The Sims is still the only game that has social capital relationship between people.
Bing GordonGUEST
40:14
And as a father of daughters, I'm proud to say that in focus groups, women understood the math of social capital more than the boys did.
Bing GordonGUEST
40:23
Okay, Bing, a product that gets delight right.

What has surprised you about the evolution you've seen or the revolution in gaming? And I'm going to ask you the same question about television.
EricHOST
21:39
Um, yeah.
JGHOST
21:40
Yeah, they were like, we're investing all of our money into more sports games, The Sims, and Star Wars.
JGHOST
21:49
Wow, you're so brave, EA.
JGHOST
21:50
We're proud of you.
Chris ElogiHOST
85:00
Mm-hmm.
Chris ElogiHOST
85:01
I mentioned like they canceled a Sims project.
Chris ElogiHOST
85:04
Yep.
Chris ElogiHOST
85:04
Although another one is being, uh, continuing on a one called project evergreen, which who knows what that means.
Chris ElogiHOST
85:12
It doesn't necessarily even mean it's a, the Sims game.
Chris ElogiHOST
85:15
It could be a Sim city or some other thing.
Chris ElogiHOST
85:18
Um, full circle studios on skate essentially, uh, big time.
LeahHOST
34:18
So the fact that you can fast travel in this game with bus stops is groundbreaking.
LeahHOST
34:25
um i've been really enjoying that there's a lot of things that because it's an early access i'm not sure if it's just a gameplay choice not to have them or if they're working on putting things in later on um there's a lot of things from sims that i miss there's certain things that they've tons of things actually that they've expanded on from sims that everybody has been going apeshit about online we're just like oh my god this whole time we've been struggling with this in sims and they just put it in for free so um it really feels like they they this is the sims killer for that we've been waiting for
AbbyHOST
35:02
nice
LeahHOST
35:05
yeah really enjoying it's really cute too because like before in the sims when they would have world events or whatever your your sim would have to like just go into a loading screen and then just show up at the community center or whatever but in this one you'll get like a little newspaper in the in the morning and they'll be like oh there's a movie night in the town square and then you can just leave your house and walk over to the town square watch a movie at the town square the astronomy club is up in the mountains today and then you gotta walk over there and i was like this is so lovely like it's so like community based and very like european in the way that it's like you know you can just walk anywhere it's great just living in a walkable city who knew
AbbyHOST
35:45
crazy
LeahHOST
35:45
yeah over on switch i was playing meetopia which is one of the ones that i was playing ages ago and i was trying to 100 it and every once in a while like jump back in play a few levels stop don't touch it for forever and now it's gotten to the point where like the part the the me's that this party in this game is based on i don't talk to any of these people anymore so i'm like at this point i need to finish this game and get rid of them like do an actual digital detox i have all these people out of my my life and my digital life that's that in mobile games now um Cats and soup and chess.

LeahHOST
62:00
Yeah.
LeahHOST
62:01
Certain things just make the games a lot more creative to play around, especially like those open world sandboxy type of games.
EveSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
27:52
I understand exactly how it works.
EveSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
27:54
You build the mod, upload it to a site like Nexus Mods or The Sims Workshop, and the platform takes a cut while you earn from donations or paid downloads.
EveSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
28:03
On Bethesda's Creation Club, it's a revenue split where you get paid per download or purchase, and on The Sims side, creators earn credits that convert to real money.
EveSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
28:13
The troll problem is real.
EveSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
28:14
Bethesda comment boards are notorious for it, which is exactly why you went anonymous.

11 MINS LATER

Brett KeaneSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
39:31
All right, ladies and gentlemen, unfortunately, Eve has disconnected.
Brett KeaneSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
39:35
But the point is that you can download this equipment and it'll make it to where you can actually get in the game, get into the code and script and actually be able to create things.
Brett KeaneSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
39:45
If you sign up with a Bethesda or the Sims EA Maxis, you can actually upload the mods to the site.
DestinyHOST
61:11
League of Legends, six hours.
DestinyHOST
61:13
The Sims, five hours.
DestinyHOST
61:15
Ooh.
DestinyHOST
61:17
Oh, Streamer Games is the IRL event.
PokimaneSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
62:50
It's like, well, girl, this is me right now.
PokimaneSOUNDBITE_SPEAKER
62:52
This isn't character customization, you know?
DestinyHOST
62:55
Oh, that was a Sims reference.
DestinyHOST
62:57
That was a snarky Sims reference.
HudsonHOST
6:10
You know, I
AlyHOST
6:11
played Sims my whole life and the Sims do die.
AlyHOST
6:14
They do live a life and die.
HudsonHOST
6:17
In this, the goal is to not die.
HudsonHOST
6:35
Yeah, you'd be better off in Monkey Life Sim than Banana Life Sim.
HudsonHOST
6:40
I
AlyHOST
6:40
think I'd just stick with the Sims.
HudsonHOST
6:42
Banana Life Sim, you would never make it to this alley, but the goal is to reach godlike status, which is living 100 hours as a banana.
Dylan BlightHOST
19:52
Top of the list is, of course, the closure of Bioware.
Dylan BlightHOST
19:56
And then, as for The Sims, the publisher claims it's prioritizing something called, quote-unquote, Project Evergreen, and is giving the, quote, the team more time to reach the full potential and vision for the game.
Dylan BlightHOST
20:08
To do so, the exec said they're pausing development on another Sims-related title called Project Lotus.
Dylan BlightHOST
20:13
The early access Skate reboot, lowercase Skate, full stop, has apparently had a lot of success, but the publisher is still restructuring the studio into a more focused, smaller team, regardless.
