The Sims

Trying to build it from scratch in memory and watching the movie, it was a nightmare.

You could not get proper trapdoors in Sims 1.

No, you could not.

Or 2.

But apparently over in the UK, it's not.

When I was a child playing The Sims 1, I would build a kitchen, right? And I always used the black and white tiles for my kitchens.

And so when I saw that in the black and white tiles in the trailer, I immediately just went back to my kitchens in The Sims.

So that's why it's not sitting right with me.

Not Sim City.

The Sims.

The Sims.

Right.

The Sims is a bit more open to everyone.

I didn't

And when you sat down to model something or to make something, you did something nobody else had ever done.

Like I guess if I, a lot of seventh game here or 10th or whatever this is, if you think about the Sims, like Will Wright sat down with his team and they modeled like consumerism and comfort in your own home and stress and plate spinning of modern life and And, you know, is spending more on a couch make you happy long term or short term? You know, are you in a job track that secretly in your heart you're not meant for? Right.

Like, well, I work at the I work at the sports arena, but really at my heart, I'm a goth guy and I would rather work in the spook house or whatever, you know, like and I'm unhappy and I can't tell why I'm unhappy.

Like, you know, it's an attempt to model all of those things accidentally or on purpose.

uh it's interesting to me life is too short to understand everything i

keep threatening to write the big sims article because i mean i i think the sim and you know it's impossible to say this without sounding a little bit cheesy or something but i think the sims is like one of the greatest works of art of like the last 50 years i think it's just staggering that game it's like so funny and true and something that could never have been done in anything except the video game the fact that it's a video game kind of just embellishes and exaggerates everything that it's trying to say and it's like i that's in my that's in my top five that's on the the pantheon that's that's a mount rushmore pick for me the original sims um

I got to be on a panel with Will Wright one time, and it was fascinating because I don't really know him well enough to know what he would be like.

Anyways,

Some are pushing back on the idea, arguing that it's simply a video game and not that deep.

Others have pointed out that millions of people have played The Sims for years, having virtual sex and creating entire families without anyone raising an eyebrow.

Rockstar has also been very clear that you don't actually have to engage with this part of GTA 6 if you don't want to.

The two characters want a relationship at the start of the game, but it's up to the player to actively pursue that.

I know.

I thought this was like the best week we've ever had, like ever.

Maybe these are more Lego City fans or The Sims games.

They enjoy cheating on their partners in The Sims games.

And so if you can't do that, and there's a later one with a remote-controlled... playing like much later in the game which is what's his name David Cross is voicing the character if you can't do either of those like you're stuck so it's like well fuck it then I might as well just kill everything so that's just it it's just it's just like death and death and carnage you know

You could do that in The Sims as well.

Oh, really? What, The Sims? Really? You could do that in definitely, I think, The Sims, like, PlayStation games.
