The Shout

So that's nice.

Because I can't remember what the feature set was like on the Shout disc.

And I would be remiss to not mention the fact that Kino's putting out the long goodbye.

If you know, you know the long goodbye is one that I think people have waited for a long time for 4K to finally come.

I can't wait to watch this movie.

If memory serves, a lot of this was filmed in Pennsylvania.

Shout out Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania.

Also, you know, Alan Bates, I mean...

He was the man in The Shout, that really bizarre British sort of horror movie from the 1970s.

So anyway, back to you, Eric.

Yes.

I mean, with that voice, how could you not be? But he's a supporting player in one of my favorites, my favorite, favorite films, The Shout, the Jerzy Skolimowski film.

He's one of the people that's at the asylum that-

And though it was Tim Curry's most famous role, it was by no means his only one.

He also played Pennywise in the original ABC miniseries version of Stephen King's It, an uptight professor in the TV series Kinsey, co-starred in the movies Annie, Clue, and The Shout, joined The Muppets as Long John Silver in Muppet Treasure Island, and played King Arthur in the original Broadway production of Monty Python's Spamalot.

And he recorded several rock albums in the 1970s and scored one hit in England with "I Do the Rock," a song that was very much of its time, and its time was 1979.

Yeah, like some of the horror movies th- Now I just kinda went through his, uh, filmography to kinda see like in particular horror what did he do.

The very first horror movie that he ever did was a movie from 1978 called The Shout.

I think last episode I put over Deep End by Jerzy Skolomowski.

This time I'm going to put over another one of his films, The Shout.

which is a film I don't know that I've put it entirely together yet.

It's a very odd film.

And luckily, I think Criterion are putting it on disc in maybe this October, I think.

Maybe they've got designs for a Halloween thing, because it's kind of a horror movie, but it's kind of a daylight, surreal folk horror, I guess.

And it's not necessarily music related, although it is Gen- Genesis connected.

I got an email about that the Criterion company that puts out really kind of well-researched, you know, good transfers of classic movies, they're reissuing The Shout on Blu-ray later this year.

And some of you may be going, "Why are we talking about a movie that's coming out on Criterion," whatever, and that movie is from the late '70s, and it happens to have a soundtrack that was done by Misters Tony Banks and Mister Mike Rutherford.

And so it's...

So I've heard it's a strange movie, but it'll be nice, A, to have a good version of it and, you know, maybe the music will get a mention in some of the bonus features or something like that.
