'Cause it's like this pocket of Short North is great.

Yeah.

And of course, you know, you get into Dublin now and Bridge Park, and now Franklinton's especially becoming that.

but lost 254 school-aged children.

In the case of the Short North in Wineland Park, about 300 fewer children live in those neighborhoods than just 15 years ago, although the adult population surged by nearly 6,000 additional residents.

And in the case of the South Side, there are nearly 2,000 fewer school-aged children living on Columbus' South Side while the adult population increased by 2.5%.

And similarly in Franklinton, we're seeing a loss of school-aged children there down 8.3%, while the number of adults living in the neighborhood is on the rise.

When we look at all five of those urban downtown neighborhoods, Fifth by Northwest, Franklinton, Short North and Weiland Park, Near East Side, Near South Side, in just 14 years, Those neighborhoods lost 3,800 school-age children, but saw their adult population surge by more than 12,300, or up about 19%, while the number of children is down by 22%.

Said another way, as recently as 2010, 27% of everybody living near downtown was a child Fifteen years later, that had fallen to 17.7%.

What is fascinating is the growth of school-age children in that next ring of Columbus neighborhoods.

I knew a lot of, like I said, I ran a record store in Cincinnati and we lived, we worked down by campus where I went to college at the University of Cincinnati.

And there's this place called Short, there's a place in Columbus called Short North, but in Cincinnati there's a Short Vine is what it's called.

I'm trying to think of the name.

Short Vine.

It was a much different neighborhood back then.

The Short North was a lot different, and the community was a lot different.

But I worked in a fifth-grade classroom.

That minor was not a member of the couple's immediate family.

A 20-year-old man was shot to death in the Short North area of Columbus.
