I'm not explaining it to you.

This record is awesome.

Sometimes you put a $300 record on and you're like, huh? The Shags.

$3,000 record.

I like the Shags personally.

But yeah, a lot of people would listen to the Shags and be like, what? But yeah, not even three.

I think the last copy I know that sold for $10,000.

I think somebody told me they sold one for $10,000.

is a band that I helped put out on Alternative Tentacles Records back in 2013.

Dot Wiegand is the name of the guitarist, and she was one of the sisters who were in the band The Shags in the late 1960s, who achieved notoriety through their musicianship, or lack thereof, depending on where you stand on The Shags.

But anyway, back in 2013, a guy named Jesse Krakow from Brooklyn got a hold of Alternative Tentacles and said, hey, I've been playing with Dot Wiggin from the Shags and we want to put out a full length record.

And well, we did.

And it was pretty intense.

Do you know about the band The Shaggs?

Definitely not.

[chuckles]

Okay.

Uh, to make a very long story short, they-- Well, they are a band of non-musicians that were basically forced by their dad to make music.

He never gave them any lessons and said they were gonna be famous, and they ended up becoming famous because of how bad they are.

But regardless, outsider music is a term used to describe music played by people who really have no concept of how to play music.

[laughs]

But, I mean, ever since I got that first call, I was, they kept calling me, or s- you know, there was just a, a business relationship, a musical relationship.

So that's how I figure how long I'd been in the band, was from those early gigs that summer at the festivals.

It was, uh, looking back at Greg Kot's Wilco Learning How to Die book, and he recorded a conversation you had with Bob Egan and, uh, he said that Bob said, "Hey, congratulations on [laughs] the new position." And, and you said, "Well, I mean, nobody's really, like, officially welcomed me into the band yet." And, and he, he said, "Well, yep, yep, that's how it goes," and shook your hand.

So I just didn't see him.

Um, no, my departure didn't have anything to do with Jay.

Um, as far as misconceptions, there is this funny minor one that I left Wilco to work in theater, musical theater.

I think the first paying job I got after I quit was playing guitar, uh, for a musical.
