That was quite a-

It's never become a set of tropes in that way.

If you like new age, people are gonna raise their eyebrows at you far more than if you like The Ruts or something.

Yes.

[laughs] True.

We had a record shop in Hayes Town called Revolution Records.

And my mum used to say, could you get me this record in the charts? And it was run by the manager of a punk group called The Ruts.

And so, you know, the staff there were very edgy and punky.

And my mum would say, could you go in there and get a single for me, to me and my brother? And I was thinking, oh my God, what could it be? And it would be something by, say, a real pop song by a group called Hot Chocolate.

The British punk bands.

I like The Ruts.

And I still go and see The Ruts when they play.

So they had Staring at the Rude Boys.

Yes.

Which was a fantastic song.
