And we

celebrated both of those for naturalistic dialogue, which I think grounds the characters.

I mean, we already sort of talked about the realism and dialogue.

We front loaded that with the comparisons to The Descent and The Ritual, which is always a compliment.

There are certain horror movies.

It absolutely made sense as to why it resonated so hard with the ones that have seen it so far, when I watched it anyway.

Yeah, my number two pick is is The Ritual directed by David Bruckner but adapted from a novel written by Adam Neville more on him in a bit and here is the synopsis for this folk horror tale a group of college friends reunite for a trip to the forest but encounter a menacing presence in the woods that's stalking them

We got hair.

We cut the journey in half.

Oh, my God.

What is that? Oh, this is clearly the house we'll get murdered in.

The Ritual.

Have you seen The Ritual, which came out in 2015? Yes,

But the basic idea behind VHS was a found footage, sort of anthology, but it wasn't planned as an anthology.

Originally, he sort of pitched it to these different directors and writers as like, um, a film school project.

Okay.

So they each had an allotted amount of time to create this found footage.

That's like an idea behind it.

Okay.

Uh, but as it was being filmed, it was sort of coming together.

So the first thing that was shot was tape 56, which is the wraparound.

But yeah, that's the payoff.

I always go to recommend the ritual with everything we say because obviously that's like a bunch of people traveling and then discovering horrible things where they are as well.

And I'm going to resist saying it again because I do want us to talk about it at length properly at some point.

But yeah, I always think that fits the bill as well.

Then Hocum, which is also crazy.

I don't think that's Damian McCarthy's best movie, but then we got The Ritual and then we got X.

though oh for sure yeah i mean i think it was the birds and psycho were the two main ones that i was shown and i don't know why but he was because how young i was and obviously psycho was more traditionally more slow and the birds is kind of more like action-packed i suppose quote unquote and i think younger me was like oh killer birds that's awesome so it was kind of like up until i started to formulate thoughts my favorite was always the birds and i re-watched psycho i was like you know i was tripping when i was younger it's always gonna be so yeah

you know i think i but i think our you know flavors kind of chase or change over time you know um for sure what was that there's that movie called uh fuck it's like based in where I'm from in California.

This guy made, like, his own version of The Birds, but it was, like, a 2000.

And I forgot what it's called.
