Um, he was definitely, he
AmandaHOST
38:28
brought attention and kind of co-signed it and did some work for it, which as we've said, I mean, if you've ever watched the rehearsal, which you should, I just finished it.
AmandaHOST
38:39
I
JodiHOST
38:39
watched it over the weekend season two.
Zeth LundyHOST
4:51
Right? This film is a new kind of cinematic language, I promise you.
Zeth LundyHOST
4:57
If you've seen Nathan Fielder's shows before, Nathan For You, The Rehearsal, The Curse, then you already know the Fielder shtick, the style, his deadpan monotone, the unbroken glance from the side of the frame.
Zeth LundyHOST
5:10
That's all in here, and Fielder is in this movie.
Zeth LundyHOST
5:14
But Nathan Fielder has never made anything that feels the way this film feels.
Scaachi KoulGUEST
15:56
But it also benefits from not knowing what's going to happen.
Scaachi KoulGUEST
16:00
And so I actually, you know, I think there's been a lot written about, like, you can't really enjoy this unless you watch the rehearsal or unless you know, like, that at the same time he was trying to fly a plane or, you know, all the stuff that people are talking about in terms of, like, the contemporary details of his life at the time.
Scaachi KoulGUEST
16:16
But I think it actually benefits greatly from not knowing anything about him and not really knowing what you're going into personally.
Scaachi KoulGUEST
16:22
People laugh at the first sight of him because he's a weirdo.

Kate LindsayHOST
22:09
Yeah.
Kate LindsayHOST
22:09
And so I literally put in all caps for the sake of the listener, Trisha Paytas, and that's all we'll say, I promise.
Kate LindsayHOST
22:16
And so moving swiftly along, Nathan's most recent show, you mentioned this too, is The Rehearsal.
Kate LindsayHOST
22:23
And he also starred alongside Emma Stone in an HBO series called The Curse.
RobHOST
2:59
We definitely won't talk about the Jews, and we definitely won't talk about race war, and...
Anthony AbbateHOST
3:05
this is okay so so i go back and i watch his show the rehearsal so now everybody everybody's talking about this documentary where he goes and he stays with elizabeth holmes and it's basically the 30 days before she goes to prison she she reaches out to a24 studios and says hey we're looking for a documentary crew to come in and film us
RobHOST
3:29
when did she go to prison
Anthony AbbateHOST
3:32
This was back in 2019 or 20.
Anthony AbbateHOST
4:34
And I saw the trailers for it coming up and everybody's saying this thing is, this thing is like a, it's a, it's a mind twist.
Anthony AbbateHOST
4:41
You have to see it.
Anthony AbbateHOST
4:44
So before I go see it, I watch his show, the rehearsal.
Anthony AbbateHOST
4:47
Okay.
Scaachi KoulGUEST
15:22
shut the fuck up? i think it's a movie that benefits from simultaneously full context and a lack of context and so to be able to really enjoy it you have to really know what happened to elizabeth holmes and what happened to the company and you have to have a baseline knowledge the movie is not playing like a lot of we're a little like poisoned by true crime where like they lay out basically like the indictment in front of you at the beginning of the movie this isn't going to do that so you already have to know But it also benefits from not knowing what's going to happen.
Scaachi KoulGUEST
15:53
And so I actually, you know, I think there's been a lot written about, like, you can't really enjoy this unless you watch the rehearsal or unless you know, like, that at the same time he was trying to fly a plane or, you know, all the stuff that people are talking about in terms of, like, the contemporary details of his life at the time.

Kate LindsayHOST
22:02
Yeah.
Kate LindsayHOST
22:03
And so I literally put in all caps for the sake of the listener, Trisha Paytas, and that's all we'll say, I promise.
Kate LindsayHOST
22:09
And so moving swiftly along, Nathan's most recent show, you mentioned this too, is The Rehearsal.
Kate LindsayHOST
22:17
And he also starred alongside Emma Stone in an HBO series called The Curse.
Amanda SilberlingHOST
1:35
I just made that up.
Amanda SilberlingHOST
1:36
So basically, Nathan Fielder, the comedian who does like Nathan for you in the rehearsal kind of like- kind of like surreal playing with reality kind of like cringe humor and just
Isabel J. KimHOST
1:51
autism i think is the way that people will put it every once in a while
Amanda SilberlingHOST
1:55
i don't know if he would say that but sure um And then Lance Oppenheim, who I don't really know much about him.
Isabel J. KimHOST
5:56
That was huge for me.
Amanda SilberlingHOST
5:57
That's also a question I have for you is what level of knowledge do you have of the Nathan Fielder canon?
Isabel J. KimHOST
6:04
I've watched some of the rehearsal and I've watched some of Nathan for you, but not a ton of it because like, I mean, between that and like how to was John Wilson.
Isabel J. KimHOST
6:12
I like how to was John Wilson better just because Nathan Fielder does such a weaponized awkwardness thing in all of his media and does like, I like his project.
WyattHOST
11:30
She still doesn't want to watch Nathan for you because that's too cringy for her.
WyattHOST
11:35
But I got her into the rehearsal both seasons of that.
WyattHOST
11:38
And she got to get on it.
WyattHOST
11:40
I have
WyattHOST
11:41
you still haven't seen.
WyattHOST
11:42
I thought, oh, damn, man.
WyattHOST
11:44
thought you had seen the rehearsal no it's
NickHOST
11:45
just me going i got to get on that for the last i don't know two years or whatever since you've been
Jeremy JacobowitzHOST
27:02
But it will say if you have seen it and you want to better understand Nathan and think kind of connect some of the dots.
Jeremy JacobowitzHOST
27:08
Obviously go Nathan for you on Comedy Central and the rehearsal a million percent on HBO or must watch.
Jeremy JacobowitzHOST
27:15
But if there's one thing that kind of and I rewatched this the other night so I could kind of have it fresh in my brain.
Jeremy JacobowitzHOST
27:22
Nathan, for you, was like a very silly, funny, silly Comedy Central show where he basically came up with weird business schemes to help people and sort of help people.
Jeremy JacobowitzHOST
28:39
It takes a lot of twists and turns.
Jeremy JacobowitzHOST
28:41
Um, There's an escort involved, not in the way you're thinking at all because it's Nathan Fielder and nothing ever makes sense.
Jeremy JacobowitzHOST
28:53
But it truly gives you a little bit of insight of what would become with the rehearsal now, this movie.
Jeremy JacobowitzHOST
28:59
And I think it's an absolute must watch.
PelónPANELIST
14:43
Have you ever seen any of Nathan Fielder's stuff, Rudy? Give me an example.
PelónPANELIST
14:46
He had a show called Nathan For You, and then he had a show on HBO called The Rehearsal.
PelónPANELIST
14:50
Never.
PelónPANELIST
14:51
Yeah, I don't know if you'd be into it.
JoelHOST
8:56
And seeing how people react to him and will they go along with him? Will they not go along with him? He's totally deadpan the entire time.
JoelHOST
9:02
Then he had a show called The Rehearsal in which he helps people kind of prepare for difficult moments.
JoelHOST
9:11
But it's hard to explain without seeing any of it.
JoelHOST
9:13
But he basically goes down this rabbit hole.
