The Real Ghostbusters

Totally different.

And just five days later, on September 13th, the real Ghostbusters premiered, bringing the characters from the Columbia movie into animation and continuing their story.

So there really were two completely different Ghostbusters cartoons arriving pretty much on top of one another in September 1986. which suddenly makes calling one of them the real Ghostbusters considerably less strange.

So neither Lyle or I watched Filmation's version growing up, so we're not going to manufacture nostalgia for something we didn't actually experience.

But with both cartoons celebrating their 40th anniversaries in 2026, we just felt it deserved its place in the history.

But the real Ghostbusters went on to run from 1986 to 1991.

Giving Peter, Ray, Egon and Winston and of course Janine a much more prominent role with Slimer.

Because Slimer just slimes Peter in the first film.

Star Trek turned 60.

Hey, while we wait for Jacob to hopefully get back, let's talk about the fact that we took part in the Ghostbusters 40th anniversary of the real Ghostbusters stream-a-thon that was over the weekend.

like over a thousand people watching uh they played the the first six episodes i think and then the i think the the marathon went on for two straight days was awesome i honestly didn't really get a chance to see much of it um ryan did did your clip make the final cut See, I don't know,

because I didn't go back to check.

you probably know me from many things probably toy anxiety that one over at yhs you probably see me on gotham city tonight but most importantly you know me for being a founding member of being ecto glow elite what is ecto glow elite funny you should ask when real ghostbusters came out had toys and at the end of the run of the toys they had these ones called ecto glow and they were super rare super hard to find but not for me i was able to get them they are amazing so i have the whole set carded and because i was feeling generous for the rest of the ghostbusters fans and community and collectors i had hasbro re-release them so that you as well could be ecto glow elite you can earn your card and you can be elite like me and my friends over at yes have some and my friends over at ghost core and ghostbusters thank you very much enjoy the rest of the show dude

Now, Stanbridge is only just outside Leighton Buzzards, and this particular story is one I've known for years, really.

I remember in The Real Ghostbusters magazine, there was a little section in there.

I can't remember what the section was called.

I've been doing some research into it, but it was in issue 151 of The Real Ghostbusters, where I think it was Ego's something.

And it was like little true tales of ghost stories from around the world.

And Leighton Buzzard featured in that.

Lou Scheimer also added another big hand in this, just like he did in He-Man.

It was written by Larry Dittow, who worked on other shows like Centurions, The Real Ghostbusters, and Peter Pan and the

Pirates.

Bob Forward was also his co-writer.

This is back home in North Dakota, so, you know, it was like, okay, up by 7, which 8:00 here.

So I would watch Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on CBS and then jump over to ABC to watch The Real Ghostbusters.

Maybe jump over to NBC, depending on which year it was, although they stopped broadcasting their true Saturday morning stuff in '92.

And then bounce back and forth between ABC or Fox or CBS, depending on what all was on.

Mm-hmm.

Uh, and there, it also brought me to discover that there was that DIC animation look from the '80s, which used all of these colors again.

Inspector Gadget, The Littles, Heathcliff, Care Bears, Popples, M.A.S.K., The Real Ghostbusters.

They used that type of design in a lot of their animation.

Inspector Gadget had all those cool grays for the technology world.

Um, the Popples, I don't think I watched the Popples.

I don't think I watched that.

The Real Ghostbusters I watched every episode with my brothers.

Takes New York City and pushes it to this strange supernatural palette.
