I, I can't really take, um, credit for it because it's the title of a song by a band called The Rakes that were-- um, that I worked with in that era.
Janine WarrenGUEST

So, um, it's actually, um, Alan Donahue, who was their singer, who came up with the title.
Janine WarrenGUEST

Bands like The Long Blondes in Sheffield, again, um, you know, they just kind of like the look of each other.
Janine WarrenGUEST
7:58
They used to see each other out in clubs and were like, "Maybe we should start a band." Not one of them could play an instrument, and then they sort of learn in, in the rehearsal space.

okay so there's three more songs with a bit more grit to them than we've played so far and don't forget if you are liking this kind of music if you like guitar music of any kind go back and listen to our previous podcasts this is the ninth one in the series so far we're going to keep on going and basically play music that you don't hear anywhere else we've got all kinds of stuff that we've had before and you never know you might just find your new favorite artist among there somewhere now on with the next three songs first up we've got the cooper temple claws with promises promises they were a band around 1998 to 2007 ish around that time didn't really make it again a bit unusual but quirky following on from that we've got the rakes with 22 grand job Now the weird thing about them is they were kicking off quite nicely.
Big FattyHOST

It's, um, a song for, by The Rakes that they wrote for a Dior catwalk show for Hedi Slimane, um, who had done a Dior Home show, and the, that show just celebrated the kind of look of the bands at that time and, and actually features some of the bands and a lot of young men that were kind of hanging around at gigs and such like that, uh, were on that catwalk show, so yeah.
Janine WarrenGUEST
2:45
Yeah.
Mark EllenHOST

Janine WarrenGUEST
37:41
They've already done it for us." Um, so I think you're getting to the point where some bands have some time out.
Janine WarrenGUEST
37:50
Bloc Party go on hiatus at the end of that, and The Rakes, they just decide to give it up.
Janine WarrenGUEST
37:54
They just stop.
