The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie

I think the movie has a lot of other interesting issues.

You know, when it deals with authority, it'd be a great companion piece to, like, "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie," things like that.

Hmm.

Um, but I was thinking about that, that issue, that idea of, you know, poetry or reading not being merely an incidental ornament to life, but life itself.

I had another amazing lecturer, this guy called Barry Scott, who was from Morningside in Edinburgh, which I won't do the accent, even though I can.

But if you've ever seen The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, it's that.

It's Maggie Smith.

With a bouffant.

Your characters were my client group.

And I think all my friends back in England thought that I'd moved to the world of The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie and Muriel Spark.

LAUGHTER I told them to go and read Trendspotting because it was the most visceral, accurate depiction of the clients I was working with and the children, the families that I was dealing with.

How do you feel about moving on for generations people's perspective of Edinburgh?
