but gleason was a serial killer in that one so comedy didn't really leap to mind when his name came up when they first started talking about the paper coming out but turns out he is great at it oscar the character from the office is actually in the show as the same character and that's the only real tether to the office aside from the style of the show which is the same mockumentary style There are references to The Office a little bit in the first season, and Bob Vance from Vance Refrigeration showed up at the beginning of the first episode for a minute.

But largely, the paper is its own thing, which is good because it can stand on its own.
