S
25:59StephanieGUEST
Identified Nevada Independent as a great resource, kind of, um, fact-based resource to research offices and candidates.
S
26:08StephanieGUEST
So I linked to some non-partisan resources, and then I shared below why we were choosing one candidate over another, and it took off like wildfire.
S

And I w- woke up one morning to all these texts from people that were friends of friends that wanted a copy of this voter guide 'cause they were going to the polls.

The problem is that the school district's enrollment hasn't declined up to the point where they trigger the hold harmless provision.
R
6:23Rocio HernandezGUEST
So that's another provision that's going to be looked at, lowering that bar so it can be easier for districts to hit that if they need that kind of help.
P
6:31Paul BogerHOST
Rocio Hernandez is the educational reporter for Nevada Independent.

Henderson Says No to ICE, What the School Board Actually Does, and What to Do this Weekend
J
3:37Jesse MerrickHOST
Uh, for, as it pertains to this story and ICE trying to expand their presence, for anybody out there that's listening that doesn't know, the site was actually the Eldorado Valley Regional Training Facility, and it's basically a shooting range where southern Nevada law enforcement agencies go to train.
J
3:51Jesse MerrickHOST
And, uh, the interesting about that is that The Nevada Independent reports that ICE has actually used that facility for years, but that denied requests stopped them from being able to expand their presence there, and essentially build another area that I believe is unique to them, uh, to be able to train there.
J
4:06Jesse MerrickHOST
And the police chief in Henderson did, as Yvette noted, cite that agreement with ICE that said the expansion would have violated the agreement.
J
4:12Jesse MerrickHOST
So I guess the big question in all of this as we dive into this today with both of you is do you think this squashes it, or does ICE come back and try to renegotiate this thing and make this happen again?
Y
5:11Yvette FernandezGUEST
I mean, it can be an especially motivating factor for small towns and cities, and although Las Vegas PD and Henderson PD aren't quite in that dire of straits, you know-
J
5:22Jesse MerrickHOST
Yeah
Y
5:22Yvette FernandezGUEST
... financially, uh, still according to The Nevada Independent, in 2025 the Henderson facility made $3.5 million in revenue-

E
1:13Eric RaskinHOST

E
5:05Eric RaskinHOST
At the end of most of my interviews here on Low Rollers, assuming I enjoyed the interview, which I usually do, I'll typically say something indicating I look forward to having my guest on again.
E
5:15Eric RaskinHOST
I probably won't do that this time around, not because I don't expect it to be a good interview, but because my guest this week is going to be retired in a little over three months.
E
5:23Eric RaskinHOST
He spent some 40 years in journalism in Las Vegas, from the Las Vegas Review-Journal to CDC Gaming Reports, currently a senior reporter for the Nevada Independent, but not for much longer as he recently announced he's retiring at the end of the year.
E
5:37Eric RaskinHOST
Howard Stutz, welcome to Low Rollers.
