The storytelling on that track and just a very fascinating concept track of Buster basically facing up with the devil was very, very fascinating.
'FutureSex/LoveSounds' | Every Single Album: Justin Timberlake

14:45Nora PrinciottiHOST
As a musical artist, this is kind of third gen Timberlake, where NSYNC is one, Justified is two, and then this is three.
N
14:55Nora PrinciottiHOST
But Justified, you know, when he worked with The Neptunes and like went to Virginia Beach in 2003 for a, you know, a, for a white pop artist coming from a boy band, that was a pretty savvy choice, and they did most-

... of that album, but then he did Cry Me a River with Timbaland, and like he was, he was, for someone in that position, also pretty early on these are the sounds, this is where pop is going, this is a more exciting thing to do than to continue on this like Max Martin-led, much more Eurocentric sound for pop.

I can remember immediately...
J
28:24JohnHOST
I mean, first of all, once again, let's just talk about the Neptunes and how when they hit on a beat, it's like... like tier a plus plus plus beat right and that's the first thing on this is that this is a tier one beat this is also a tier one pharrell hook it's an awesome hook uh that he sings on this one so pharrell really knows how to sing a hook um buster rimes's manic energy works really well on this and he has very funny lyrics And I have to say, and this is not going to be a popular thing on a number of things, that as untalented as an MC, as Puffy is, it actually works on this because the spirit of what you're going for here, this sort of, I'm at a party and pass the Cavasier, which unfortunately probably is a little bit too similar to what a Diddy party was, which is why it probably works.
J
29:17JohnHOST
But his... his sort of like talk mc style does work on this track and so you put all the pieces together um and it's kind of undeniable this is like it's also got another once you get past the pharrell thing it's got like the jump jump part of it which is just like an anarchist like like breakdown of the chorus there's just a lot of things here that make this a really fun song to like play and bob your head to and yeah but it really as good as everything is like the combination of beat and hook you know when you talk about like best neptune's beats and hook combinations like this is right up at the front so uh it does it is weird because there's the edited version and then the other version and there is not i am not approved but there is a probably i mean an intense amount of the use of the n-word on this one which is a little bit disconcerting but that's my only quibble on this one but definitely a number one real high cash song
J

Yeah, I think I probably at this point heard the clean version more than the regular version.

"Up Jumps da Boogie" was one of the early decisive strikes that altered that perception.
J

I mean, when you think about it, it helped establish a regional collective, one that included Missy, Timbaland, Magoo, Pharrell Williams, Chad Hugo of The Neptunes, D'Angelo, Ginuwine, Skillz, Mad Skillz, as being the most progressive musical minds in the industry.

It proved that the sound from that area could dominate national charts without conforming to those outside standards.
