The Music Man

As World War II loomed, Burns returned permanently to America in 1940.

David Burns built a formidable reputation as one of the most reliable and beloved supporting actors on the stage, appearing in such plays as Pal Joey opposite Gene Kelly, Hello, Dolly!, The Price, and his two Tony-winning performances, each in The Music Man and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.

Burns' other movie appearances include The Great Ziegfeld, It's Always Fair Weather, and Let's Make Love, the latter opposite Marilyn Monroe.

On March 12th, 1971, while performing on stage at the Forest Theatre in Philadelphia during out-of-town tryouts for the musical 70, Girls, 70, originally titled Lovely Ladies, Kind Gentlemen during early development, David Burns collapsed from a fatal heart attack at the age of 68.

I've been involved in musicals.

I- the first musical I ever actually played in the pit for, um, I was in sixth grade, and it was The Music Man.

But-

Whoo

Okay, this is not my answer, but this is the first thing that popped into my head, so I'm going to say it.

I remember doing The Music Man in college.

It was the first musical I did in college.

I was in the ensemble.

That'll open.

And then a classic musical, The Music Man, will be on our stage.

That's been a long time since that's been at Riverside.

The last person to do The Music Man at Riverside was this person.

Yeah.

Oh, okay.
